UNIDO is a specialized United Nations agency with a unique mandate to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development. It supports developing countries and emerging economies in building and transforming their industries.
UNIDO’s vision is a fair global economy, free from poverty and hunger, where industry, innovation and local value addition drive progress and inclusive growth decoupled from emissions and overexploitation of resources, delivering peace and prosperity for all.
UNIDO serves our 173 Member States through five complementary functions: technical cooperation, policy advice and statistical analysis, development of and compliance with norms and standards, our convening function, and partnership development.
UNIDO functions as a global platform for knowledge and technology transfer, fostering partnerships and promoting and mobilizing investments in developing countries. The Organization operates worldwide, with a headquarters in Vienna, liaison offices in Brussels, Geneva, and New York and a global network of 49 field offices and 10 Investment and Technology Promotion Offices.
Led by Director General Gerd Müller since December 2021, UNIDO is driven by the principle of “progress by innovation”, harnessing new ideas, cutting-edge technologies and novel forms of cooperation to create win-win situations for sustainable development worldwide.
Our work is concentrated on three priority areas: advancing agro-industries and local value addition to end hunger, driving clean and sustainable energy and energy efficiency measures and climate action and building fair and sustainable supply chains so that producers in developing countries get a fair deal and scarce resources are preserved.
Specifically for Ukraine UNIDO envisions a resilient, green and sustainable industry in Ukraine and promotes a strategic and integrated approach, focusing on creating opportunities for people, supporting businesses and attracting investment, as well as fostering a green economy. Part of UNIDOs work in Ukraine relates to greening of the construction sector.
