Keytopic 1: Building for Change: Carbon Reality in Southeast Asia

Michael Budig is an architect, educator, and design technologist based in Singapore. He is Associate Professor of Practice in Architecture at the National University of Singapore and leads work that connects low-carbon construction with material innovation, digital design, and fabrication.

Budig’s work spans built projects in Austria and research initiatives in Singapore focused on renewable materials, reconfigurable building systems, and circular construction. He has led academic and industry-facing programmes in digital design and fabrication, and previously held roles including Assistant Professor at SUTD, research leadership in advanced fabrication contexts, and the inaugural CEO and Executive Director of the educational robotics startup Wefaa Robotics. Michael Budig obtained his PhD by creative practice at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
