Keytopic 3: The Building Envelope as a Lever for the Energy Transition – Renvelope, Austria’s Flagship Project in Serial Renovation
The future of building renovation is increasingly focused on standardization, digitalization, and sustainable energy supply systems. At the same time, several key challenges remain: enabling minimally invasive refurbishment in occupied buildings, ensuring financial feasibility with acceptable rent increases, and overcoming regulatory barriers—particularly in the context of social housing.
Currently, serial renovation requires a similar amount of labor as conventional construction methods, with limited levels of automation and significant untapped potential for cost reduction.
The flagship project RENVELOPE, together with industry partners such as Rhomberg, Nussmüller Architekten, and Towern3000, aims to pave the way in Austria for the large-scale implementation of affordable serial renovation solutions.
